Cotopaxi planning

Just a quick update to let you know that we are still in Quito, we shall head out to the national park tomorrow morning. The idea is to climb Rumablablabla somethingorother volcano on Sunday, then to attack Coto when it is a bit quieter on Monday… just so you know when to watch the spots.  Don’t freak out if you don’t see spots – if it is cloudy then they sometimes don’t go through.

Today we had a very chilled out day, people watching and eating steak. They seem to have clubs here that are open all day that all the teeny boppers go to  at about lunchtime, so that provided some entertainment.  Oli managed to fall asleep for the whole afternoon – highly adventurous!

Hopefully next time we should have something a bit more exciting to tell!

Off to eat, again..

Bisous,

Faboli

  1. Rumablablabla…. Chimborazo?

…. ‘Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, they have stolen my heart away’

Will be watching with interest. Told my students all about it at tutorial yesterday and triggered good discussion about composite cones, andesite, destructive plate margins etc.

  2. Woua, you made it to 5000 m or maybe more but I cannot see clearly on the spot. This is great and how was the breathing ?? What I could see was that you touched the snow… now we have to wait for you to tell us all about it. I can’t wait to see pictures. Now where are you going ? The only “mountain/volcano” you can climb is the Everest….but not so easy I guess. Been watching the spot closely wondering when you’ll made it, now this is going in the book of “the greatest climb”. Have fun and keep the spot working, it’s our way of sharing adventures with you. Bisous 242

  3. Hey you did it!
I’ve only got patchy internet at Sussex U so only just caught up with you.

  4. The ‘spot’ worked fine, despite your concerns about cloud cover! The map co-ordinates generated by the ‘ok’ spots revealed that, even at those altitudes, Google ‘street view’ (he-he!) works with photos. Did you see a little orange Google Man hovering near you up there, landing on little blue spots from time to time? He revealed all sorts of things, magnificent views from/of Coto…and huge crevasses on the glacier…and the way the snow over-hung the crater lip! (Oh my!) Not only did you make it to over 5000 mtrs….you made it back down too! CONGRATULATIONS! xxx
If only George Mallory had had one of these spots in 1924! Then there would be no mystery as to whether or not he had reached the top of Everest!

  5. Hi there you stoic two. How determined you must be. We have just arrived home from a rainy three weeks in Ireland and
much appreciate the tortoise card. Many thanks.

    Love from Valerie xxx

Ireland was wet but not too cold. 14o at
times and we had a log fire and the Stanley on to dry out. Its nice to be home
    in England to 20o.
